The Real Thing
I just returned from a conference in Orlando held at a large hotel/conference center. Seven stories of rooms surrounded a large enclosed atrium filled with rock formations, water falls, flowers, and expensive restaurants. I took my camera along (as usual) in case something caught my eye. On a free evening I walked around the grounds of this monstrous icon of luxury, but I took very few pictures. Nothing seemed real to me. The fake rocks, the perfectly positioned paths, and the color coordinated flowers were off-putting. It depressed me and I longed for the real beauty of God’s natural world. When I got home, I rummaged through my pictures and found a couple I’d like to share.

Rock Castle
This picture was taken on a trail outside Colorado Springs. The setting sun illuminated this rock formation standing alone like an ancient castle.

Mountain Brook
This brook tumbling over rocks through a field of wild flowers is the real thing. I came across it above our base camp on Wheeler Mountain in New Mexico on our hike to the top.
