Mood
I’m taking a photography class at the local technology center on Saturday mornings. Although I’m reviewing a great deal I already knew, I’m also learning a few new tricks along the way. Today our instructor passed out an arm load full of coffee table style photography books to us. He asked us to peruse a book of our choice and pick any photograph we liked. Next, we showed the photograph we chose and why we liked it. He asked us to think about lighting and mood and what the photographer was trying to say through the picture.
For my blog sometimes I choose pictures that seem to fit my commentary. You may have noticed that some of them are a stretch because I can’t seem to find a picture that depicts what I’m trying to say. At other times, I choose a picture and write about what it produces within me. Tonight, I’m simply feeling a mood that has been creeping over me all day, so instead of writing about my mood, I simply want to present this picture. I leave it to you as the interpreter of the picture to discern what mood I’m trying to relay.
In reality, who really cares what the artist is trying to portray or what mood the photographer is in when he or she took a picture. Ultimately, what matters is what the photograph does for you and how it speaks to you. I took this particular photograph on my recent trip to southeast Oklahoma. I present it to you as a loose representation of my mood this evening and invite you to allow it to speak to you in whatever way it will.
