These stairs in Morocco descend into a vast underground labyrinth of rooms and tunnels where Christians were chained to pillars of stone at night and taken out in the day to serve as slaves. As I walked through the now empty caverns, I could picture the emaciated believers lying in their own filth. I could see the thin, bony hands and feet protruding from the shackles. The images moved me.
