Abandoned Church

Abandoned Church

There is a sign as one enters St. Louis, OK on Highway 59.  It says, “Welcome to St. Louis.  Home of 179 Friendly People, one Pyromaniac, and one Busy Body.”  It’s a cute sign.  I found this abandoned church within the town limits.  Looks like a “fire accident” waiting to happen.

Abandoned churches are sort of sad to me.

I agree. It doesn’t mean, however, that there is an abandoned faith. Perhaps this church outgrew their building and moved somewhere else. Even if the membership dwindled to nothing the building still represents a time when a group of people gathered to worship, sing of their faith, find fellowship together. That’s a good thing. This building probably holds fond memories for several people.

i think that abandoned churches are kind of beautiful, because God and spirituality thrive in nature. It is beautiful to see a building that nature is taking back, because nature is beautiful. the trees that grow in abandoned churches, replace the people, and they too are lovely creations to be appreciated. it is peaceful and spiritual to see nature thrive in a place where people once were.
