dsc00136.JPGI am in an ongoing search to discover what it means to be a person in Christ.  I share my reflections and my questions, my insights and my failures.  Writing these things down helps me process what I’m learning.  I hope the entries will help you as well.

Love God–The greatest Biblical commandment is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  If that is so, what exactly does that look like?  What does it mean to “love God” fully?

Love Your Neighbor–The second greatest Biblical commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself.  This may be easier to talk about than to actually do.  In this series, I explore what loving our neighbor might really look like.

Love Yourself–Before we can love our neighbor, or even God, we have to be able to love ourself.  Many of us have difficulty with this.  In this popular series, I explore why loving ourselves is so difficult and what we can do to love ourselves better.

Listen to God–One of the best ways to demonstrate our love for God is to listen to what God is saying to us.  Christians talk much about hearing God’s voice, but how exactly do I do this and how do I know when I’ve heard God?

Talk Honestly to God–The key to any successful relationship is honest communication.  God is not afraid of our anger or our doubt.  If we truly love God, we will be willing to share all that is on our mind no matter how difficult.  God wants to hear us articulate what is within us.

Confess to God–Confession is also a way to demonstrate our love to God.  Confession, however, is more than simply saying, “I’m sorry.”  It’s more than beating ourselves up for our mistakes.  True confession is joining God in recognizing what needs changing.

Change Behavior–As much as we may want to change our behavior to demonstrate our love to God, it remains a difficult task.  Many of our behaviors are rooted in deep patterns, misinformation, or traumatic experiences.  Change requires hard work and reliance on the grace of God.

Recognize God’s Wonder–When I stop to recognize God’s wonder I am brought to silence. God’s wonder makes me tremble before an awesome Power and at the same time rejoice in hope and thanksgiving.

Offer to God–Unfortunately, many Christians, after years of church attendance, have a limited view of what it means to make offering to God. Offering is much more than the money we give.

Trust God–There is much we do not understand.  There is much over which we have little control.  There is much that causes us worry and anxiety.  One of the ways we demonstrate our love to God is to place our anxieties, confusion, and wilderness moments in God’s hands.
