There is a bit of narcissism in anyone that would develop a web site to display his work and have the URL web address the same as his name. (Okay, there is a lot of narcissism in such a person.) Perhaps such an indictment can be made of any blogger–all of us feel like we have something to say or give to others. Blogging, in a very real sense, is a statement of worth.
Some of us blog from a sense of inferiority. We want desperately to believe that what we say or produce will mean something to someone. When it does, we are validated. Others of us come from a sense of arrogance believing that our opinion or art is better than that of others. Thus, we are God’s gift to the blog reading world. Both perspectives are rather pathetic.
So where do I fall in this dichotomy? I hate those forced choice options because they require me to look more closely at the essence of who I am. Given these two options only, however, I am the former. I offer my photos and entries in hopes of validation. That is not to say that my self esteem or self worth is entirely tied to how people respond. I do, however, want to be able to offer something of worth to others and hope that what I post here succeeds. I post with a sense of humility. Notice my “Don’t Take Me Too Seriously” quote at the top of the side bar. It is my mantra.
So why do you post? What drives you to blog, to share your thoughts, photographs, or opinions?
